Kate wore a custom made one of a kind Alexander McQueen design.
Kate accessorized the gown with the diamond and pearl Cambridge Lover's Knot tiara owned by Princess Diana. The duchess has been given the Royal Family Order of Queen Elizabeth II - a jewel which encases the image of the Queen on a chartreuse yellow ribbon which royal women wear pinned to their left shoulder.
The honour is given, by Her Majesty, to female members of the royal family and is worn on white tie occasions such as state banquets and the annual Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace.
The order, is also worn by the Duchess of Cornwall, Princess Anne and the Countess of Wessex.
The miniature portrait, painted on glass, depicts the Queen as a young woman in an evening dress wearing the ribbon and star of the Order of the Garter. The image is bordered by diamonds and crested by a Tudor Crown in diamonds and red enamel. It is patterned with rays and pictures the royal cypher and St. Edward's Crown in gold.
